Taiko (Japanese Drumming) Workshop
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Join members of Heian Daiko, River City Taiko and Sora Daiko in a participatory drum workshop. VCU Ethnomusicologist and Assistant Professor of Focused Inquiry Paul Yoon, who has over 20 years of drumming experience starting with Soh Daiko in New York, will lead the group. The workshop will be co-facilitated by Audrey Short, formerly drumming with Manhattan Taiko and currently Interim Assistant Director of Academic Programming, VCU Globe. The workshop will be held in Room 1030J, West Grace Street Student Housing – North, 830 W. Grace St.

NSO Research Week Informational Sessions

The National Scholarship Office will hold a day of informational sessions in conjunction with Research Week. Scholarships to be discussed include: Goldwater (11 a.m.-noon), Fulbright (12:30-1:30 p.m.), Critical Language Scholarship (2-3 p.m.) and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (3:30-4:30 p.m.). Jeff Wing, director of the NSO at VCU, will lead the first three sessions. The sessions will be in Virgina Rooms C and D, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave.

VCU Police To Host Distracted Driving Safety Fair

Is it so bad to text, Snap or FaceTime while driving? Yes and it could be deadly. Hear testimonies from survivors impacted by distracted driving at VCU Police Department's Distracted Driving Safety Fair at Shafer Court, between James Branch Cabell Library and Hibbs Hall. AAA, Text Later Live Longer (TL3), the Virginia State Police and others will have interactive exhibits, giveaways, free food and safety information. VCUPD is hosting a social media contest and giveaway; winners could receive one of 28 gift cards or a Mission BBQ gift basket.

Navigating the Department of Defense Grant Process

The session will be led by David Cifu, M.D., who heads the Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium. The grant-writing series is geared toward early career faculty researchers. Climate Change and Human Security in the Pacific

VCU`s Office of Research and Innovation presents a "Because of You: Research You Make Happen" seminar with Andrea Simonelli, Ph.D., assistant professor, VCU Department of Environmental Sciences. Simonelli will discuss her research about the impacts of climate change on human security in the Pacific Islands based on her field work in Western Samoa, Fiji, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands. VCU Opera Presents 'The Pirates of Penzance'

The VCU Department of Music and VCU Opera will present "The Pirates of Penzance." The comic opera by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan will be presented in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall of the W.E. General admission is $15, $10 for those age 60-plus and VCU employees, and free for students with a valid VCU ID.

Men and women between the ages of 18-55 who vape are invited to participate in a research study that requires five, four-hour laboratory visits. Compensation (up to $500) is provided.
