'A Gathering to Remember Those Lost to Substance Use'
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
VCU's Rams in Recovery presents "A Gathering to Remember Those Lost to Substance Use." This remembrance event, to be in Monroe Park, 620 W. Main St., provides an opportunity to recognize, honor and grieve for those who have been lost. The event will include stations dedicated to the five senses; music from the Recovery Ally Choir and RVA Street Singers; and speakers, including a parent who lost a child to substance use and two students who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Naloxone will be dispensed; training for its use will be offered.

'Experiencing Villa-Lobos: Visiting Artist Showcase'

'Because of You' Seminar: Bile Acids Are Not Just for Digestion

VCU`s Office of Research and Innovation presents a seminar in the series "Because of You: Research You Make Happen." Huiping Zhou, Ph.D., professor of microbiology and immunology, will speak at the event, in the Founder's Conference Room, Virginia BioTechnology Research Park – BioTech One, 800 E. Leigh St. She will discuss her research into how bile acids play a much larger role in healthy liver function than just digestion and potential keys to unlocking new treatment modalities for fatty liver disease. 'The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1772-1832'

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Alan Taylor will speak in the third-floor lecture hall, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. Taylor is Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation Chair in the University of Virginia’s Corcoran Department of History and author of numerous books about the colonial period, the American Revolution and the Early Republic. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1996 and 2014. This is the third event in the year-long series "Virginia's Past, Present, and Future," presented by VCU's Humanities Research Center and Department of History in partnership with American Evolution: Virginia to America, 1619-2019.

Research Poster Design Session
VCU's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program will host a poster workshop.
