Screening and Discussion of New Netflix Production 'Special'

The show is about a young gay man with cerebral palsy who decides to branch out from a twice-closeted existence in hopes of pursuing the life he wants. 'William Hardin Burnley and the Black Atlantic'

VCU Department of History and The Alexandrian Society presents Selwyn R. Cudjoe, Ph.D., professor of Africana studies at Wellesley College, who will discuss "William Hardin Burnley and the Black Atlantic." The lecture will be in the Forum Room of University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Cudjoe’s lecture will focus on Burnley, the largest slave owner in Trinidad in the 19th century and the biggest resident slave owner in the British Caribbean. Cudjoe is the author of “The Slave Master of Trinidad: William Hardin Burnley and the Nineteenth-Century Atlantic World.”

Monroe Scholars Book and Author Luncheon

The VCU Office of Alumni Relations will host award-winning author Lee Smith at the ninth annual Monroe Scholars Book and Author Luncheon. The event will be held at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club, 1700 Lakeside Ave. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to meet Smith and purchase an autographed copy of her latest book, “Dimestore.” Cost is $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight. $50 of each ticket and $400 of each table is a tax-deductible contribution. Proceeds from the luncheon fund the Monroe Scholars Book Award program. The award provides special recognition and a $1,000 scholarship to high school students who meet the criteria of leadership and scholarship and who enroll at VCU.

The VCU Board of Visitors invites written public comment on the proposed fiscal year 2020 university budget plan that includes tuition and fees. Hispanic/LatinX Research Study
Hispanic/LatinX individuals born outside of the mainland United States aged 18 years of age or higher are invited to participate in a research study. The program is investigating social and psychological factors that affect ethnic minorities’ health outcomes. Those who qualify will participate in a 20-minute study to complete several questionnaires, physical assessments (e.g., height and weight measurements) and tasks. Compensation is available.

'Schedule Send' in Gmail Coming Soon
Collaboration Services announces "Schedule now and send later," a new Gmail feature that is coming soon. Users will see a "Scheduled" folder appear in their Inbox some time after April 15. Then when drafting an original email or reply in Gmail, an arrow next to the “Send” button will allow the email to be scheduled for later.
