'A Gathering to Remember Those Lost to Substance Use'

VCU's Rams in Recovery presents "A Gathering to Remember Those Lost to Substance Use." This remembrance event, to be in Monroe Park, 620 W. Main St., provides an opportunity to recognize, honor and grieve for those who have been lost. The event will include stations dedicated to the five senses; music from the Recovery Ally Choir and RVA Street Singers; and speakers, including a parent who lost a child to substance use and two students who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Naloxone will be dispensed; training for its use will be offered.

Spring 2019 Criminal Justice Lecture

Edmundo Mireles, retired FBI agent and former Marine, will deliver the Spring 2019 Criminal Justice Lecture. The free event, presented by VCU's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, will be held in the Richmond Salons, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. During his 25-year career with the FBI, Mireles was one of eight FBI agents involved in the "Miami Shootout," the bloodiest day in FBI history. Following the incident, the FBI made changes in policy related to training, body armor and weapons.

VCUDine Nutrition Week
VCUDine will observe Nutrition Week March 18-22. May Commencement will take place at 10 a.m. May 11 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Students participating in the ceremony must wear caps, gowns and hoods. Academic regalia is available for purchase at Barnes and Noble at VCU on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses. If you are unable to visit your campus bookstore, you can purchase your regalia online from April 12 through April 30 at http://www.balfour.com/vcu/. Caps and gowns will not be available for purchase at the ceremony.

Summer Programs at Mary and Frances Youth Center
Summer programs at the Mary and Frances Youth Center will offer two different week-long, full-day camps. The camps will be held at the Center, 120 S. Linden St., from June 24-Aug. 9. Lobs and Lessons camps offer tennis, swimming, outdoor adventure games and healthy lifestyle activities for rising first- through ninth-grade students. Discovery, for rising sixth- through eighth-grade students, offers fun, challenging and creative classes with a variety of in-depth experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts and health sciences.

Research Poster Design Session
VCU's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program will host a poster workshop. The session, 3:30-4:30 p.m. March 19, will be held in Room 1160, T. Edward Temple Building, 901 W. Main St., and will cover some of the technical aspects of poster creation from design to printing. It is appropriate for undergrads who will present their work at the Poster Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity taking place on campus April 24.
