VCU Police To Host Distracted Driving Safety Fair
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Is it so bad to text, Snap or FaceTime while driving? Yes and it could be deadly. Hear testimonies from survivors impacted by distracted driving at VCU Police Department's Distracted Driving Safety Fair at Shafer Court, between James Branch Cabell Library and Hibbs Hall. AAA, Text Later Live Longer (TL3), the Virginia State Police and others will have interactive exhibits, giveaways, free food and safety information. VCUPD is hosting a social media contest and giveaway; winners could receive one of 28 gift cards or a Mission BBQ gift basket.

15th Annual Marquita Aguilar Walk-A-Thon

Join fellow employees and students for the 15th annual Marquita Aguilar Walk-A-Thon. Participants will gather at the Plaza of the University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., and walk around Monroe Park led by Rodney the Ram and The Peppas. Lunch and door prizes will follow. By making a gift of any amount, registrants for the walk support the Virginia’s Caring University Scholarship, which benefits rising juniors and seniors at VCU. VCU Opera Presents 'The Pirates of Penzance'

The VCU Department of Music and VCU Opera will present "The Pirates of Penzance." The comic opera by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan will be presented in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall of the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. A performance will also be given at 4 p.m. April 28. General admission is $15, $10 for those age 60-plus and VCU employees, and free for students with a valid VCU ID.

Amendment Film Festival

VCU's Amendment Literary and Art Journal will host its fourth annual film festival. The event will be in Room 1165, T. Edward Temple Building, 901 W. Main St. The free screenings will feature student-made films on social, cultural, political and progressive themes. Films include animation, documentary, narrative short film and more.

Topic Tour: 'Black Women and the Power of Re-vision'

Isabelle Richman explores the intersection of Cauleen Smith's exhibit at the ICA, "Give It or Leave It," with the abilities of black women preachers and visionaries of the 19th century. Richman, J.D., Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Religious Studies Program of the School of World Studies at VCU. The Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center is at 601 W. Broad St.
