'Building Skills for Grant Writing'
2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Dean's Office of the College of Humanities and Sciences will present "Building Skills for Grant Writing." The workshop will be held in Room 308, Hibbs Hall, 900 Park Ave. The session will include the basics of using the grant-writing database Pivot, differences between academic and grant writing and etiquette and preparation for interacting with project officers. VCU Demo Day

VCU's da Vinci Center will host Demo Day, at which select student ventures from the university will give entrepreneurial pitches and be recognized. Students will give their pitches from 3-5 p.m. in the theater of the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. MFA Thesis Opening Reception
6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
VCUarts will host a reception for the MFA Thesis Exhibition at The Anderson, 907 1/2 W. Franklin St. Participating departments in the annual student exhibit include Craft and Material Studies, Graphic Design, Kinetic Imaging, Painting and Printmaking, Photography and Film, Sculpture and Extended Media and Theater. The exhibition runs April 26-May 11.

Provocations Performance at ICA: Paul Rucker

VCU Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) Arts Fellow and Assistant Professor Paul Rucker combines media and performance at the ICA in response to Rashid Johnson's "Monument" exhibition. Rucker, a visual artist, composer and musician, investigates community impacts, human rights issues, historical research and basic human emotions. A performance will also be offered at 3 p.m. May 4 at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St.

Irena Haiduk: Tableau Économique Discussion and Oration at ICA

Massey Cancer Center Research Retreat

VCU's Massey Cancer Center will host the 2019 Cancer Research Retreat. The day will begin with research presentations by Massey Cancer Center faculty members and a special keynote address by John Carpten, Ph.D., Director of the Institute of Translational Genomics at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. A poster session will be held in the afternoon and Excellence in Cancer Research awards will be presented at the close of the event. The morning session will be in the auditorium of the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building, 1217 E. Marshall St. The afternoon session will be on the 11th and 12th floors, James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center, 1201 E. Marshall St.

Faculty: Apply Now for 2019 Affordable Course Content Awards
VCU Libraries, the Office of the Provost, the ALT Lab, Online@VCU and the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence announce the opening of the 2019 round of the Affordable Course Content Awards. The program supports faculty adoption of free resources and creation of openly licensed alternatives to expensive textbooks. Deadlines are May 31 for intent to apply and June 30 for completed applications.
