VCU First Destination Survey Live
The VCU First Destination Survey is live for May 2019 graduates on Handshake at VCU. Your answers to this survey will provide VCU with information used to improve career and academic advising, student recruitment and student services. Prizes for completing the survey include a Nintendo Switch, Apple Watch, Roku player or hard-side luggage. The first two prize drawings are May 3 and May 31. Log into the survey at bit.ly/VCUFDS19. Your name will not be associated with your responses in any public way. In the next six months, you’ll be able to review or change your information.

World Premiere of New Performance Work by Paul Rucker at ICA
7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
This week at the ICA, Guggenheim Fellow, iCubed Fellow and Assistant Professor Paul Rucker will present a new work for solo cello. The work, "400: The Fire Next Time," is inspired by James Baldwin’s book, "The Fire Next Time," and the 400-year anniversary of the first 19 black bodies brought to Virginia. The performance will be in Gallery 4, Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. An earlier show, a meditation, will be given at 4 p.m. May 3. A performance at the same location at 3 p.m. May 4 will feature improvisations by Rucker with Nathanael Clark on alto saxophone and Victor Haskins on trumpet.

Ad Lucem: A Night of Praise and Worship
7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Catholic Campus Ministry will host a night of Praise and Worship and adoration at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 823 Cathedral Place. All are welcome. VCU Greater Richmond High School Jazz Band in Concert

The VCU Greater Richmond High School Jazz Band will perform under the direction of professors Antonio Garcia and Toby Whitaker. The concert will be in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, W.E. Singleton Center, 922 Park Ave. Music will be by composers Tadd Dameron, Duke Ellington, Mercer Ellington, Bob Florence, Antonio García, Dizzy Gillespie, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Oliver Nelson, Horace Silver and more. Rec Sports Water Safety Festival
Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to noon
Celebrate Water Safety Month at VCU Recreational Sports' annual Water Safety Festival. Bring a bathing suit; the event will be held at the Cary Street Gym Aquatic Center, 101 S. Linden St. The focus will be on water safety and strategies for safe swimming. Prizes, giveaways, food and drinks will be available.

Tyree Memorial Plaque Unveiling
Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 3 p.m.
A memorial plaque will be unveiled in the lobby of the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave., in honor of beloved faculty member, mentor and friend Rebecca Tyree. The ceremony will include a collective singing of “This Little Light of Mine.” All are welcome and encouraged to participate.

$1 Walking Tacos at Grace and Holy Trinity Church
Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 5 p.m.
Celebrate Cinco De Mayo at Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 8 N. Laurel St., with a $1 walking taco. Funds from the event will go toward VCU's Episcopal Campus Ministry and Red Door Ministry. Walking tacos will be available (while supplies last) on the front porch of the church, facing Monroe Park. The rain location will be in the church kitchen.

Mindfulness in the Park: Introducing Ourselves to the Present
Monday, May 6, 2019 from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Take a break with VCU's Wellness Resource Center and practice mindfulness outdoors. Bring a blanket or yoga mat to the fountain in Monroe Park. One of the Well's staff members will serve as a guide during a 20-minute session to focus on the present. The rain location is The Well, 815 S. Cathedral Place.

ICA Provocations Performance: Dylan Languell

In response to Rashid Johnson’s “Monument” installation, artist and musician Dylan Languell will present an improvisational group musical performance using multiple pianos. The performance will be at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. A performance will also be given at the same location at 3 p.m. May 11.

Massey Cancer Center Research Retreat
Friday, Jun. 7, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
VCU's Massey Cancer Center will host the 2019 Cancer Research Retreat. The day will begin with research presentations by Massey Cancer Center faculty members and a special keynote address by John Carpten, Ph.D., Director of the Institute of Translational Genomics at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. A poster session will be held in the afternoon and Excellence in Cancer Research awards will be presented at the close of the event. The morning session will be in the auditorium of the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building, 1217 E. Marshall St. The afternoon session will be on the 11th and 12th floors, James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center, 1201 E. Marshall St.
