What is Graphic Medicine? Exploring Medical Topics with Comics

What does Spider-Man have to do with PTSD or Captain Marvel with cancer? Comics have long addressed health and wellness topics with their characters. The term graphic medicine describes how comics and graphic novels are used to study health care, by both patients and providers. VCU Libraries will host a session in the Health and Wellness Library, VCU Hospital Gateway Building, 1200 E. Marshall St., about how the dynamic medium of comics can be used to discuss health topics. Commemoration of Those Lost on 9/11 and in the War on Terror

VCU's Student Veterans Association and Military Student Services will host a ceremony to commemorate those who died in the attack by terrorists on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The ceremony will begin with a wreath laying at the flagpoles at Grace E. Harris Hall, 1015 Floyd Ave. Members of the host groups, representatives of Veterans of Foreign Wars #6364 and VCU students who wish to participate will run with loaded backpacks in the Ram Courtyard behind the University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., to honor first responders who climbed the stairs at the Twin Towers.

Volunteers Sought for Student Conduct Board
VCU's Student Conduct and Academic Integrity seeks faculty, staff and students to volunteer for the Student Conduct Board. Volunteers will be trained and authorized to determine whether a student has violated the Student Code of Conduct and to recommend sanctions when a violation has been committed. MCV Campus Construction: Traffic Impact Updates
Construction and related utility work at and around the VCU Health Outpatient Facility and Inpatient Children’s Hospital sites will affect traffic patterns on the MCV Campus for several months. On Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. through Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., 11th Street between Broad and Marshall streets will be closed. Backpack to Mount Rogers, Virginia's Highest Point
VCU's Recreational Sports' Outdoor Adventure Program will sponsor a backpacking trip to Mount Rogers. During the weekend trip, participants will experience scenic views, explore Grayson Highlands State Park and perhaps see wild ponies. The trip is geared to first-time backpackers or seasoned adventurers looking to pick up new skills.

Substitute Teaching the VCU Way
