Visiting Artist Lecture by Kenny Rivero

VCU's Department of Painting + Printmaking presents a lecture by visiting artist Kenny Rivero. Rivero received an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2012 and is the recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant, a visiting scholar position at New York University, and the Joan Mitchell Painting and Sculptor Grant. Rivero is currently a lecturer at the Yale University School of Art and visiting faculty in the VCU Painting + Printmaking department for the Fall 2019 semester. The lecture will be given in the Commons Theater, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave.

Annual Marcel Cornis-Pope MATX Lecture Scheduled
3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Rohan Kalyan, Ph.D., will present a lecture on “Death by Media: The Politics of Eventocracy in the Late Eurocene.” The talk is the 2019 VCU Annual MATX Marcel Cornis-Pope Lecture, hosted by VCU's Media Art and Text Ph.D. program. The talk will be on the third floor, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. Kalyan, an assistant professor of international studies in VCU's School of World Studies, is the author of "Neo Delhi and the Politics of Postcolonial Urbanism," which examines the impact of urban renewal and economic growth in India's capital city. He has co-directed two short documentary films with his brother, Gorav Kalyan.

VCU Innovation Challenges Sets Informational Session

Professor Arie Dubnov, the Max Ticktin Chair of Israel Studies at George Washington University, will unravel the complexities of the upcoming Israeli elections. The American Association of University Professors is a national membership organization that acts as an advocate on behalf of faculty, particularly around issues of academic freedom and faculty governance. The VCU-AAUP chapter of the association works with the national and state bodies of AAUP to promote these issues at VCU. Membership is open to all full-time and part-time faculty. The meeting will be held in Room 3309, T. Edward Temple Building, 901 W. Main St. All faculty of all ranks and appointments are welcome to attend VCU-AAUP meetings, but voting is restricted to members of AAUP.

What is Graphic Medicine? Exploring Medical Topics with Comics

What does Spider-Man have to do with PTSD or Captain Marvel with cancer? Comics have long addressed health and wellness topics with their characters. The term graphic medicine describes how comics and graphic novels are used to study health care, by both patients and providers. Clean and Jerk Weightlifting Clinic Scheduled

Applications for the 2019-20 Faculty Peer Mentoring Program cohort are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 16. The program is a cross-disciplinary, one-to-one faculty mentoring program sponsored and coordinated by VCU's Office of the Provost. Volunteers Sought for Student Conduct Board
VCU's Student Conduct and Academic Integrity seeks faculty, staff and students to volunteer for the Student Conduct Board. Volunteers will be trained and authorized to determine whether a student has violated the Student Code of Conduct and to recommend sanctions when a violation has been committed. Harvest Moon Canoe Paddle Set
VCU Recreational Sports' Outdoor Adventure Program will host a mellow canoe paddle and a chance to see the harvest moon over the tidal James River.
