The Global Education Office hosts the monthly Global Café. Get to know students from around the world and learn about VCU's rich cultural diversity. First Fridays at ICA To Feature Premiere of 'When I Get Home'
6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A short film by musician Solange Knowles will have its big-screen Virginia premiere. The film, inspired by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey in Knowles' hometown of Houston, will be presented at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. The screening will be followed by a Style & Spirits Black, White & Shine-themed afterparty with DJ Nobe. Also, grab some ICA swag and get creative at the Studio Two Three To-Go Art Truck. Free refreshments and a cash bar will be available.

Auditions Set for Saved by the Belles
Saturday, Sep. 7, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Saved by the Belles, an all-female a cappella group, is seeking singers for all voice parts and a beatboxer. Participants should prepare a verse and chorus. Auditions, in the Commons Theater, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., will also be held at the same times on Sept. 8.

Beta Alpha Psi To Hold Organizational Meeting

Auctus Schedules September Meeting
Sunday, Sep. 8, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Auctus: The Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship will hold a working meeting. The session will be held in Virginia Rooms A and B, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Participants will learn how to evaluate, critique and correct undergraduate research to be published in the Journal. Bring a laptop to begin the process of reviewing submissions for acceptance.

The Virginia Leadership Academy is a one-day conference hosted by University Student Commons and Activities for Weeks of Welcome. Backpack to Mount Rogers, Virginia's Highest Point
VCU's Recreational Sports' Outdoor Adventure Program will sponsor a backpacking trip to Mount Rogers. During the weekend trip, participants will experience scenic views, explore Grayson Highlands State Park and perhaps see wild ponies. The trip is geared to first-time backpackers or seasoned adventurers looking to pick up new skills.

Claim a Space for VCU Park(ing) Day
On Sept. 20, VCU Parking and Transportation will host a limited number of parking spaces for university departments to participate in Park(ing) Day. Park(ing) Day is an international event in which parking spaces are transformed into miniature parks for the day. This event is designed to promote sustainability and green space within communities. Volunteers Sought for VCU Cancer Patient Advocate Group
Take the Fight at VCU is a chapter of a nonprofit organization which supports patients with cancer as well as the medical staff. The group seeks to facilitate the exchange of medical information and increase the patient’s ability to follow their treatment plan. Volunteers take leading roles in community outreach, fundraising and campus engagement. Students from all majors are welcome.
