Discussion on Sexual Violations of Enslaved Men

Thomas A. Foster, Ph.D., a historian of sexuality and gender in early America, will lead a discussion hosted by VCU's Department of History. The talk will be in Room 250, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. In his book, "Rethinking Rufus: Sexual Violations of Enslaved Men," Foster illuminates how the conditions of slavery gave rise to a variety of forms of sexual assault and exploitation that affected all members of the community.

New River Gorge Climbing Weekend Planned
Recreational Sports' Outdoor Adventure Program will host a trip to one of the most famous climbing areas in North America, the New River Gorge region. Participants will be taught equipment usage and basic climbing and belaying techniques in a trusting environment. This rock climbing and camping adventure is designed for climbers of all abilities. Registration Open for Five-Saturday Drawing Class
Drawing For Your Portfolio is a five-Saturday, not-for-credit, drawing studio course for prospective art students. Expand drawing skills, receive drawing feedback and create new work for art school application portfolios. The class is appropriate for introductory drawing students and those with more experience. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining Physical Activity and Sleep Quality
We are seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years to participate in a study examining the effect of physical activity on sleep quality. Individuals must be willing to significantly increase their physical activity level (5,000-plus steps per day) for two weeks. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre, 1020 W. Grace St.

Participants Sought for Study of Mental Health of University-Enrolled African American Men
Kofoworola Williams, a fourth-year Social and Behavioral Sciences Ph.D. candidate, is seeking participants for a focus group. The purpose is to understand the factors that impact the mental health of black men and where they would go for support. Those who take part must be undergraduate black/African American males between the ages of 18 and 25. Participation will require a 60- to 90-minute focus group discussion in a private room on campus. Participants will be compensated $30.
