World Studies Society and Virtual Curation Lab To Present 'Fantastic Beasts'
2 p.m.
VCU anthropology professor Bernard K. Means, Ph.D., will be presenting on "Fantastic Beasts." A skull exhibit and tour of the Virtual Curation Laboratory will follow. In keeping with the Halloween theme, chocolate skulls, pizza and soda will be provided. The event, part of the World Studies Society's October Global Conversation Series, will be at 911 W. Grace St., the VCU building associated with the Virtual Curation Lab.

Hallow-Screen: Cabell Library To Host Annual Costume Photo Shoot With Green Screen
3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
You're invited to put on your best Halloween duds - makeup, pirate's patch, fake teeth, blood-spattered shirt, witches' hat or whatever scares your friends the most — and have your picture shot against a green screen. The event will be held in the Workshop, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. A selection of creepy backgrounds will be available. Catalyst Quartet To Perform as Part of Rennolds Series
Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 at 3 p.m.
The Catalyst Quartet, made up of laureates and alumni of the Sphinx Competition, will perform as part of the Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concert series. The performance will be at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. Hailed by the New York Times at their Carnegie Hall debut as “invariably energetic and finely burnished … playing with earthy vigor,” the quartet is known for “rhythmic energy, polyphonic clarity and tight ensemble playing.” The ensemble has toured the United States and abroad. General admission tickets are $35, $32 for those 60-plus/VCU employees/VCU Alumni Association members, $25 for those 16 and younger and free for VCU Music students and VCU Music faculty.

Scientist-Artist Exchange Planned at Gallery 5
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019 at 7 p.m.
Three VCU scientists will each give 10-minute talks about a scientific problem. Artists will bring their own supplies and then create a work about the scientific problem. After an intermission where the artists can ask questions, continue working or grab a refreshment, the exchange will begin. Three or four artists will explain to audience what they imagined as they heard the problem and share their artistic sketch. The session will be held at Gallery 5, 200 W. Marshall St. All work can be shown the following Wednesday for one night at Gallery 5.

GEO Lunch and Learn: Working With VCU's English Language Learners (MCV)

This session, hosted by VCU's Global Education Office, introduces faculty and advisers to the needs of English language learners and shares how to help and discusses available campus resources. Summer Study Abroad Program: Midwifery and Health in Guatemala
VCU's Institute for Women’s Health and Highland Support Project will host a week in partnership with indigenous midwives and community leaders in Guatemala. Chili Chefs Wanted for Charity Cook-Off
VCU Police will hold its 10th annual chili cook-off at Rodney's Place in Shafer Court Dining Center, 810 Cathedral Place, on Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m. The department is recruiting chefs. All recipes, including vegetarian, are welcome. Register for free as a chef at the following email. Those who attend are asked to donate $5 to sample chili and get a hot bowl of their favorite recipe. All proceeds benefit FRIENDS Association for Children in Richmond. First- second- and third-place winners will be named, along with a Taster's Favorite.

Volunteer for Party at the Polls On Election Day
VCU Votes Coalition seeks volunteers for Party at the Polls on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Volunteers will assist in sharing nonpartisan sample ballots and voter guides, polling location information and walking groups to the polls. VCU Votes Coalition will also have food and activities in the Virginia Rooms of the University Student Commons from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Multiple shifts available. All volunteers are welcome.
