Highland Support Project Club To Screen 'Gold Fever'
4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Highland Support Project Club will host a screening of “Gold Fever” at the Pace Center, 700 W. Franklin St. The film focuses on three women in Guatemala who fought oppressive gold mining companies which used intimidation and violence to keep their operations running. The film, released in 2014, was directed by Andrew Shurburne, Tommy Haines and J.T. Haines. Ray Martin, Ph.D., an engineer who has led numerous trips to Guatemala, will also speak.

Battling Locust Swarms in Colonial New Spain
5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Martha Few, Ph.D., Latin American history professor at Penn State University, will examine the insect's impact on Spain's colonies during a 150-year period. The event, hosted by VCU Department of History, is the first annual Harold and Laura Greer lecture on Latin American history. The talk will be in Room 303, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. Starting in the 1680s and continuing through the 1830s, records show locust swarms in the region of what is now Central America and southern Mexico intensified in frequency, duration and geographic scope. This talk will analyze the politics of insect-killing campaigns when locusts swarmed and the impact on the colonists and Indigenous peoples as they grappled with food shortages, fear of disease and threats of social unrest. The VCU Physical Therapy program is hosting a beginner salsa dance class and fundraiser taught by experienced VCU physical therapy students in the first-floor lounge, Hunton Student Center, 1110 E. The money raised will go toward the 2019-2020 VCU-Marquette Challenge, a nationwide competition to raise money for the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research.

2020 Dogs On Call Calendars for Sale

Take Safety Measures During Thanksgiving Break
VCU Police reminds everyone to lock doors and windows of residence hall rooms, houses, apartments and offices and to take all keys during the break. Valuables should be stored in a locked drawer or closet or taken home. Drivers leaving a car on campus should park in a well-lighted area, remove all valuables and lock the doors. Cyclists should store bikes in legal, secure locations with a U-lock.

Holiday Toy Drive To Be Held on MCV Campus
VCU Women in Science is sponsoring a holiday toy drive to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Through Dec. 6, toy donations can be deposited in collection boxes at Jonah L. Larrick Student Center, 900 Turpin St.; Sanger Hall, 1101 E. Marshall St.; and the Robert Blackwell Smith Building, 410 N. 12th St. Toys must be brand-new and unwrapped. Toys for Tots prefers not to accept realistic looking weapons or gifts with food. If donated, such items will not be distributed.

VCU’s Facilities Management Department is replacing the “QuikFM” customer service portal effective Dec. 9. The new system, “Facilities Self Service,” utilizes a mobile-friendly responsive and accessible design, CAS authentication, and other improvements. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining Estrogen and Blood Vessel Function
We are seeking females between the ages of 18 and 35 years to participate in a study examining the effect of estrogen on blood vessel health and function at rest and during exercise. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal investigator is Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
