"Touch of Elegance," a new ICA-commissioned opera by Richard Kennedy, will be performed at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. The production is about a small-town black hair salon and a neighboring '90s streetwear store. Kennedy’s mother was the receptionist at the salon and his father was part-owner of the store. Kennedy has transformed a biographical fiction into a live, 50-minute opera.
