OMSA To Host Women of Color Discussion Group

VCU Office of Multicultural Student Affairs will host a discussion group for women of color in Room 215, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. The event is open to faculty, staff and students who wish to talk about relevant experiences. A reservation is not required but early attendance is encouraged. Lunch will be provided.

RAMmalogues Session on Sexuality
12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The November RAMmalogues session is "Sexuality: Who I Am and Who I Love." The session provides lunch and a braver/safer space for all students to have the hard conversations about their social identities and lived experiences at VCU. The session will be in Room 250, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. Students can talk about sexuality in the context of acceptance, belonging and inclusion around campus. Sessions are led by trained facilitators through VCU's Division for Inclusive Excellence. Registration is required. The next RAMmalogues, about age, will be Jan. 24. Register at the following URL.

RamPantry To Hold Fall Food Drive

Opening Reception for 'Pilot Episode' Art Exhibit

The VCUarts Communication Arts Department will present "Pilot Episode," an exhibition of artworks juried by Karly Andersen, Evan McGrady and Professor Sterling Hundley. A reception will be held at The Anderson, 907 1/2 W. Franklin St. Department Chair TyRuben Ellingson and Hundley will speak at 6:30 p.m. The exhibition is on view until Nov. 22.

Opera at ICA: 'Touch of Elegance'
Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"Touch of Elegance," a new ICA-commissioned opera by Richard Kennedy, will be performed at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. The production is about a small-town black hair salon and a neighboring '90s streetwear store. Kennedy’s mother was the receptionist at the salon and his father was part-owner of the store. Kennedy has transformed a biographical fiction into a live, 50-minute opera.

Inaugural Richmond Indie Comic Expo Planned

VCU Libraries will host the inaugural Richmond Indie Comic Expo. The VCUarts student-run expo will feature panel discussions and art for sale from VCU alumni and local Richmond comics creators. The expo will be free and open to all.

'Tangled Webs' To Highlight Opera Scenes

Beginner Salsa Dance Class and Fundraiser

The VCU Physical Therapy program is hosting a beginner salsa dance class and fundraiser taught by experienced VCU physical therapy students in the first-floor lounge, Hunton Student Center, 1110 E. The money raised will go toward the 2019-2020 VCU-Marquette Challenge, a nationwide competition to raise money for the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research.

Nov. 16 Traffic Changes During the Richmond Marathon
Broad, Grace, Main and Belvidere streets will be closed for extended periods during the Nov. 16 VCU Health Richmond Marathon. Faculty, staff and students should plan their routes to both the Monroe Park and MCV campuses and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Drivers can use the Waze traffic app to navigate around Richmond on race day. Road closures have been preloaded into the app.

VCU Libraries' Food for Fines Program Runs Through Dec. 21
VCU Libraries will host a food drive through Dec. 21 to help stock Ram Pantry at VCU, which provides emergency food for VCU students. For each food item a person donates, VCU Libraries will waive $5 in fines, up to a $30 maximum. Fees to repair damaged items or to replace lost items will not be waived. Food should be brought to service desks at the libraries. Any nonperishable food is acceptable. No opened containers or food past the expiration day can be accepted.
