GRTC Plans Pulse, Route 5 Changes for Jan. 20
Due to increased traffic near the State Capitol on Lobby Day, GRTC will detour many bus routes, including the Pulse and Route 5, on Jan. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Service delays are likely. VCU community members traveling between campuses are encouraged to utilize Route 5. MCV campus passengers can board the stops at Eighth and Clay or Eighth and Marshall to travel westbound. Monroe Park campus passengers can board the stops at Cary and Laurel, Cary and Harrison or Cary and Belvidere to travel eastbound. Pulse will experience several stop closures and detours along the route. The nearest available stops to the MCV campus will include Convention Center East, Main Street Station East and VCU Medical Center West. The VCU/VUU stop will continue to be serviced. Updates will be available on the GRTC mobile app or by following @GRTCTransit on Twitter.

ICA Artist Performance: Leonardo González, La Guerra del Fútbol

Presented by VCUarts The Anderson and the ICA, Honduran artist Leonardo González will perform a provocation within Guadalupe Maravilla’s "Disease Thrower" installation. Using Ryszard Kapuscinski’s text "La Guerra del Fútbol" (1990) as a framework, González deconstructs and reconstructs narratives surrounding the events of the “Soccer War,” a brief military episode which provides parallels to migration, land rights and the legacies of colonization. The performance, in Spanish, will be at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St.

Central Virginia SOCRA Chapter Meeting

The Central Virginia Society of Clinical Research Associates chapter will present "Creating and Sustaining Diverse Study Enrollment: Toward a Quantifiable Science of Recruitment" from the 2019 SOCRA Annual Conference Plenary Session. The speaker will be Jonathan Jackson, Ph.D., Director, CARE Research Center, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical Center. Receptions at The Anderson for Art Exhibitions

"Stone’s Throw: Arte de Sanación, Arte de Resistencia," curated by Laura August, presents artworks by Central American artists that reference resistance and healing. Faculty member Julia E. Pfaff explores digital and manual methods of production in "Artifacts: Whole-Cloth Quilts." Also on view: works by LGBTQIAFO students in "Self-Projection" and artworks by PAPR student Nicholas Gerson in "Memorial: No. 1."

Weaving Workshop at ICA With Hellen Ascoli

Guatemalan artist and museum educator Hellen Ascoli will lead a family-friendly, bilingual weaving workshop presented by VCUarts, The Anderson and the ICA. Participants will be introduced to the history and traditions of Mayan textiles. This all-ages workshop, at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., is free. All materials will be provided. Ascoli is one of the artists whose work is in the exhibition "Stone’s Throw: Arte de Sanación, Arte de Resistencia, which opens at The Anderson, 907 1/2 W. Franklin St., on Jan. 17.

Beta Alpha Psi January Meeting

Representatives from Cherry Bekaert LLP and the nonprofit Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will speak at an organizational meeting of the VCU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor organization for accounting students. The speakers will debate the differences in careers in tax and audit and offer career advice. The session will be held in Room B3207, Snead Hall, School of Business, 301 W. Main St. Each month Beta Alpha Psi invites speakers from the Richmond area to discuss current trends and best practices in accounting.

National Day of Racial Healing: 'The Burial of Kojo' Film Screening
Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
ICA and Initiatives of Change USA bring Ghanaian filmmaker and musician Blitz the Ambassador to Richmond to headline the annual National Day of Racial Healing. The film, "The Burial of Kojo," will be screened at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. The event, created by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, enacts their approach to truth, racial healing and transformation. Initiatives of Change is leading this process in Richmond, one of 14 U.S. cities funded by Kellogg to implement racial healing work.

Traveling the Winding Road to Fitness

Deciphering the purpose and intent of fitness formats such as high-intensity interval training, barre, functional training and the many varieties of yoga can be difficult. This workshop will break down the buzzwords and trends and how to effectively exercise for personal goals and interests.
