Free Showing of 'Sustainable'
4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Center for Environmental Studies, part of VCU Life Sciences, will host a free viewing of the film “Sustainable” as part of the 10th annual RVA Environmental Film Festival. “Sustainable” investigates the economic and environmental instability of America’s food system through the lenses of soil loss, water depletion, climate change and pesticide use. After the film, John Jones, M.P.A., Ph.D., from VCU’s Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) will facilitate a panel discussion about the film’s themes with scholars and food systems practitioners in the greater Richmond region. The event will be in the theater, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave.

IDEATE Speaker Series: Social Impact
5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The da Vinci Center will host a panel discussion as part of its IDEATE (Increasing Diversity in Entrepreneurial and Tech Ecosystems) series. Panelists Melody Joy Short (entrepreneur and co-founder of Richmond Night Market and the ARTisan Cafe), Charles P. Ajemian (president, Social Enterprise Alliance Virginia) and Enjoli Moon (founder and creative director, Afrikana Film Festival and ICA assistant curator of film) will share their roles and journeys in the social enterprise/nonprofit sector, lessons learned, missed opportunities, what makes their work and commitments different from other areas of entrepreneurship or service and what they wish they had known early in their careers. Bui, a guest speaker in the department's Spring Seminar Series, will present "A General Knowledge Discovery Framework for Understanding Variation in Complex Manufacturing Data. Hendrée Jones, Ph.D., will speak at a Reynolds and VCU Humphrey Fellows Partnership Symposium on International Perspectives on Women, Substance Use and Addictions. Jones is an internationally recognized expert in the development and examination of both behavioral and pharmacologic treatments for pregnant women and their children in risky life situations.
