MLK Celebration Week Kickoff Event
Jamelle Smith Wilson, Ed.D., will moderate reflections and dialogue on “The Fierce Urgency of Now.” The event, from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 19 in Room 303, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave., will include a buffet meal and short film. 'From Abidjan to Richmond: A Conversation on Fulbright Travel, Study and Work Abroad'

VCU Dept. of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies and the Global Education Office will host a roundtable about Fulbright travel, study and work abroad. The discussion will be led by Konan Amani, former Fulbright liaison and professor emeritus, Houphouët-Boigny University, Côte d'Ivoire, and Christine Cynn, Ph.D., former Fulbright recipient and associate professor of the department of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies. The informal session will be in second-floor Humanities Research Center conference room, Valentine House, 920 W. Franklin St. The discussion is open to all. Refreshments will be served. A Mindful Body Scan for Rest and Relaxation
2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
A 20-minute guided meditation session will focus on a body scan for deep rest and relaxation. The session, hosted by the Health Promotion and Well-Being Center and suitable for all levels, will be in the center's Resilience Lab, 815 S. Cathedral Place.

Master in Product Innovation Meet and Greet

Medical Grand Rounds: Health Effects of Climate Damage

The health effects of climate damage will be the topic of the VCU School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine Medical Grand Rounds in Room 1-044, Sanger Hall, 1101 E. Marshall St. Michael Donnenberg, M.D., senior associate dean for research and research training, will cover what is happening to the planet's climate and what is causing these changes, the consequences of rising temperatures and how they adversely affect health and what can be done to mitigate climate damage.

Beta Alpha Psi January Meeting

Representatives from Cherry Bekaert LLP and the nonprofit Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will speak at an organizational meeting of the VCU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor organization for accounting students. The speakers will debate the differences in careers in tax and audit and offer career advice. The session will be held in Room B3207, Snead Hall, School of Business, 301 W. Main St. Each month Beta Alpha Psi invites speakers from the Richmond area to discuss current trends and best practices in accounting.

'Coaching for Leaders and Managers'

'Fire and Freedom: Food and Enslavement in Early America'
The Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences will host a traveling exhibit which explores the role played by slave labor in keeping American colonial settlers nourished. Presentation Deadline Extended to Jan. 17 for Brain Injury Conference
VCU and the Brain Injury Association of Virginia will host the 2020 Heading Forward Brain Injury Rehabilitation Conference. The conference will be held April 30-May 1 at the Westin Richmond, 6631 W. Broad St. Presentations must relate to acquired brain injury but are not restricted to TBI. Adult and pediatric presentations are welcome. The call for presentations has been extended to Jan. 17.
