Wednesdays in the Workshop Accessibility Series: Design of Assistive Technology
Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In VCU Libraries' ongoing series, Dianne V. Pawluk, associate professor and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Coordinator, Department of Biomedical Engineering, and grad students Bryson Josiah Goolsby and Hyun Woo Kim will present. Assistive technologies are often thought of as devices that support people with disabilities. But some useful tools, such as the autofocus camera, speech-to-text and even the potato peeler came from the development of assistive technologies. This session, in the Workshop, lower level, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave., is a crash course on design methods.

Intersectional Feminism, Fair Trade and Nongovernmental Organizations

Guadalupe Celeste Ramírez is the director of Asociación de Mujeres del Altiplano in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. The association facilitates technical and educational training on topics including civic participation, entrepreneurship, self-esteem, nutrition, Maya cultural identity and community resilience. Implicit Bias in Health Care

This IExcel Education seminar is designed to cultivate self-awareness of implicit bias in health sciences professionals and offer the opportunity to consider and practice strategies for mitigating bias. Participants will develop self-awareness of their own biases through the use and discussion of the Implicit Association Test and consider the impact of their bias on patient care. Foundational concepts including micro-aggression and health disparities will be explored. The seminar will be held in Rooms 104/105, Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building, 1217 E. 'Gay on God’s Campus: Mobilizing for LGBT Equality at Christian Colleges and Universities'

GRTC Travel Training Session- MCV Campus

VCU Parking and Transportation will host a one-hour GRTC travel training session for students, faculty and staff in Room 1-067, Sanger Hall, 1101 E. Marshall St. The session will include how to use the GRTC bus system, navigate Pulse/Route 5 routes across campus and commute from areas in Richmond to VCU's Monroe Park and/or MCV campuses. 'Effective Communication Using DISC Styles'
