IExcel Education Informational Session for RFP-IE-002 to Develop Courses

The VCU Division for Inclusive Excellence has released its Request for Proposals (RFP-IE-002) Building a Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Certificate Program to seek partners who will design and develop course content for its Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Certificate Program. These sessions will be added to the course and program compendium offered through the division's new education platform, IExcel Education. This RFP is open to all VCU faculty, staff and students, as well as to alumni and community partners who are vested in the success of the university. An open informational session will be held in the Wanda S. Mitchell Conference Room in the Division for Inclusive Excellence at 817 S. Cathedral Place. Those interested in submitting a proposal by the end of January can learn more about the RFP and submission/development process by attending one of the informational sessions prior to Jan. 13 when the “Intent to Submit” form is due. Three Steps to Overcoming Emotional Eating
Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 from noon to 1 p.m.
Emotional eating can become a vicious cycle, leading to weight gain, poor health, additional stress and more eating. VCU Human Resources and well-being coach Pam Losada will lead a workshop about coping with emotions without using food. CLARION Case Scholarship Competition
Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 from noon to 1 p.m.
The Center for Interprofessional Education in collaboration with Inter Health Professional Alliance Student Group will hold an interest meeting for the CLARION Case Competition. This competition allows students to form interprofessional teams and put forth solutions for a community and health-based case to earn scholarship money and educational/résumé building skills. The session will be in the boardroom of the Putney House, 1010 E. Marshall St. Darci Bowles of the School of Nursing will also offer a Root Cause Analysis presentation. The winning VCU team will compete in the national competition in Minnesota in April 2020.

Mindfulness Session at Cabell
Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020 from noon to 12:45 p.m.
VCU Human Resources and Recreational Sports will host a mindfulness session focusing on the ability to be fully present in the moment to decrease stress and increase levels of focus and happiness. The session will be in Room 250, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. Register in Talent@VCU.

Maker Garage Training Courses
Registration for three levels of makers' courses is open through the VCU Office of Continuing and Professional Education for VCU College of Engineering students who seek to use the VCU Maker Garage. Students must first complete a basic shop safety training course and demonstrate the ability to operate basic equipment before accessing the space. For more advanced equipment and tools, higher level training courses are available. Modules begin Jan. 14, with morning and afternoon sections.

Research and Mentoring (RAM) Opportunity
The Research and Mentoring(RAM) Opportunity is a mentoring and experiential learning program designed to serve local high school students. The two-week research and mentoring initiative seeks to engage VCU graduate students in any discipline to design a new or develop an existing research project for those who are being mentored.
