VCU Dental Boards Screening Nights

ICA Talk: Guadalupe Maravilla

Guadalupe Maravilla, an assistant professor at VCU School of the Arts, will discuss his installation "Disease Thrower," on view through July 1 at the ICA. Maravilla will explore how drawing, sculpture, performance and community engagement become vehicles for exploring his own experiences with illness and migration, as well as the anxieties experienced by undocumented peoples. The talk will be at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St.

Whose Lives Matter? Life Expectancy Across Richmond (IExcel Pop-up Course)
Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
IExcel Education Pop-up (non-credit) course SC0733 is designed to engage students from diverse academic backgrounds in visiting and learning about the living situations of public housing community residents of Richmond's East End. Babies born within five miles of downtown Richmond can expect to experience a 20-year difference in life expectancy. The three-session class, which started Jan. 27, will continue on Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, Ninty-minute sessions will be held in the new VCU Health Hub @25th, Suite A, 1330 N. 25th St. Sessions, taught by Candace Johnson, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., and retired theater professor John Countryman, will include opportunities to interact with residents and meet with civic leaders. ICA Talk: Marcus Fisher
Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Sound artist Marcus Fischer will discuss installation and sound composition at the ICA with a focus on his work in the 2019 Whitney Biennial. His talk will be followed by an improvised performance using analog and digital processes. Fischer is a musician and interdisciplinary artist based in Portland, Ore., whose work centers around memory, geography and the manipulation of physical audio-recording mediums. He builds soundscapes from recordings, found objects and chance, along with tape loops and live instruments. The event will be at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St.

Dissertation Study for Romantic Couples
This two-hour dissertation study explores how the brain works with people who are in romantic relationships. This study is conducted through VCU Department of Psychology.
