Levi Van Sant, Ph.D., George Mason University, will give a presentation on his current project, "Conserving Plantation Geographies: Environmental Ethics and Racial Capitalism in the U.S. South." The talk will analyze conservation easements in the South and highlight the ways regional environmental governance rearticulates political ecologies of the plantation past. VCU Libraries' ‘Freedom Now’ Project To Be Featured on Feb. 24 PBS History Program
A VCU Libraries’ digital project will be featured when “The Future of America’s Past” premieres on Virginia Public Media at 10 p.m. Feb. 24. In the segment, "School Interrupted," the project illustrates the struggle to desegregate public schools in Prince Edward County. The project displays images documenting civil rights protests in Farmville in 1963. Host historian Edward Ayers explores the impact and legacy of early student civil rights protests in the show.

Faculty Requests Required for Kanopy
In spring semester 2020, all Kanopy film titles require a faculty request for access and approval by the VCU Libraries. Once approved, the film will be available for viewing to everyone in the VCU community. Kanopy film titles and categories remain searchable. A request form appears with each film title. Film requests must be made by VCU faculty and tied to course instruction. Films must be requested two weeks prior to the time of instruction in order for approval. See details on the web.
