ICA Visiting Artist Lecture by Lavar Munroe

The VCU Department of Painting + Printmaking presents interdisciplinary artist Lavar Munroe, whose work encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture and installation art to create hybrid forms that straddle the line between sculpture and painting. Munroe has exhibited at Prospect.4 in New Orleans, the 12th Dakar Biennial in Senegal and the 2015 Venice Biennale. He also represented The Bahamas at the 2010 Liverpool Biennial. The talk will be at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St.

Exhibition Reception at The Anderson

The opening of "Sunday Donut," an exhibition by VCUarts students Madeline De Michele, Ashlyn Rudolph and Arda Athman, will be celebrated at The Anderson, 907 1/2 W. Franklin St. The artists utilize religious iconography to create a whimsical depiction of sainthood. Each piece within "Sunday Donut" is a meditation on saints and their place in the modern world. The exhibition is on view through Feb. 28.

Gender Identity and Choral Singing Symposium

The Gender Identity and Choral Singing Symposium will include panel discussions, featured guest speakers, workshops and performances from VCU and Richmond Allied Voices choral ensembles. The event will be held at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. Discussion topics will address gender identity, the impact of transgender transition therapy on the voice and other aspects of choral singing.
