Participants will examine the benefits of diversity as well as the effect of privilege in classroom environments, along with identifying some instructional practices that may inhibit learning processes for students from diverse backgrounds. Opportunities will also be provided for participants to interact, exchange relevant information and initiate plans for a future pedagogical innovation. All three sessions feature both didactic and experiential components. The first two sessions will be scheduled for 90 minutes; the third session will be 45 minutes. VCU Police Are on Patrol and Available for Survivors

April is sexual assault awareness month; while many students, faculty and staff are away from VCU, VCU Police officers are still available to take reports and provide resources to survivors. VCUPD uses the You Have Options Program, which gives survivors control over how much information they share about an assault. Each shift staffs specially trained, victim-witness officers who can speak with victims about any crime, survivors of assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and harassment.

Rec Sports Invites VCU Community To Join 2020 Recreation Movement

VCU Recreational Sports is participating in the 2020 Recreation Movement. This virtual fitness program, which runs through May 3, connects university students, faculty, staff and alumni from over 40 schools across the country. Members of the VCU community with an active vcu.edu email address can participate. Users log their active minutes per workout through the site; minutes are then combined by school and displayed in a leaderboard showcasing each school’s performance.

Online@VCU Open Office Hours

ALT Lab/Online@VCU is offering virtual office hours from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays for anyone needing help with teaching online or moving a class to remote instruction. An instructional designer, media production specialist and a web development expert will all be available through Zoom to answer questions and help determine the best way to share knowledge and measure learning in the online environment. Black Women Sought To Participate in Study About Dealing With Racial Discrimination

VCU School of Medicine is looking for black women ages 18-25 with a BMI between 25-45 kg/m2 in the Richmond area who want to take part in a study designed to capture experiences of racial discrimination. HER Squared is a research study designed to provide the opportunity to reflect on various experiences with racism and how you deal with the experiences. Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry (MATR)

The Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry (MATR) is a registry of twins and their families who are willing to consider taking part in health-related research. As the largest twin registry in the United States, the MATR aims to be a resource for researchers at VCU and other organizations who are interested in conducting studies with twins. The registry welcomes twins of any age, ethnicity and zygosity (identical or fraternal). All twins (triplets, etc.) are invited to register.
