'Remaking The World In Aquatint'
5:30 p.m.
The VCUarts Department of Art History will present a lecture with Douglas Fordham, Ph.D., assistant professor of art history at the University of Virginia. This talk examines how the medium of aquatint shaped the message of British imperialism and supplied a growing market with images of distant places in the late 18th century. By remaking the world in aquatint, traveling artists and printmakers simultaneously remade what it meant to be British. The talk will be in Room 250, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave.

Film Screening in Honor of Fred Korematsu Day

VCU Globe will recognize Fred Korematsu Day with a screening of “A Vanished Dream: Wartime Story of My Japanese Grandfather.” The film, to be shown in Room 1030J, West Grace Street Student Housing – North, 830 W. Grace St., is by Richmond Free Press photojournalist Regina Boone. A discussion about past and recent immigration issues will follow.

United2Heal Super Warehouse

United2Heal will host its first volunteer event of the semester at 1210 Bentley St. At the event, volunteers will gather and sort medical supplies to be sent abroad to a country suffering from health disparities. Rides will be provided at the Commons Loop at 3 p.m. Free pizza will be provided.

It Takes a World to Make a Meal: The Human Costs of Feeding Virginia’s Elites
Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 from noon to 1 p.m.
Enslaved people were instrumental in maintaining and developing the culinary traditions of 18th-century Virginia, particularly as trained cooks and dining attendants. Food historian Leni Sorensen, Ph.D, will give a talk in the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room, Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, 509 N. 12th St., about meals and the people who cooked them. 'The Impact of a Social Enterprise: Revisioning Community Engagement'

Ajemian (president, Social Enterprise Alliance Virginia) and Enjoli Moon (founder and creative director, Afrikana Film Festival and ICA assistant curator of film) will share their roles and journeys in the social enterprise/nonprofit sector, lessons learned, missed opportunities, what makes their work and commitments different from other areas of entrepreneurship or service and what they wish they had known early in their careers.
