Two-Spirit: It's Not Biological, It's Spiritual
Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Adrian Matthias Stevens and Sean Snyder are Indigenous dancers who have been together for seven years. They will honor and discuss Two-Spirit people, a term associated with Indigenous people possessing both male and female spirits. Being Two-Spirit is also an umbrella term, representing Indigenous queer people at large. The program is hosted by VCU's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. 'COMMON WEALTH AND COMMON DEBT'
Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020 at 3 p.m.
The Institute for Contemporary Art will host a showing of "COMMON WEALTH AND COMMON DEBT," a production by The Conciliation Project. Based on conversations with Richmond citizens, this new production considers deep histories and the upheavals of 2020, including the coronavirus pandemic and racial justice protests. T-Shirt Design Competition: Women in Science
Monday, Nov. 16, 2020 at 10 a.m.
The Women in Science organization is holding a competition to determine the group's next T-shirt design. First place will receive a $50 cash prize and a T-shirt featuring the winning design and second place will receive a $25 cash prize. Deadline for submissions is 11 p.m. Dec. 31. The group's general body will vote and announce the winners in January. Navigating Federal Recognition With Attorney Morgan L. Faulkner

In 2018, the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, along with five other state-recognized tribes, gained federal recognition. Morgan L. Faulkner, a tribal council member and practicing attorney, will discuss the Upper Mattaponi's path to federal recognition and what considerations have been taken now as they navigate their new sovereign status. Thanksgiving Candygrams
Monday, Nov. 16, 2020 from noon to 4 p.m.
Heart to Soul in Action at VCU will hold a Thanksgiving Candygrams event for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Ronald McDonald facility houses families of patients at Children's Hospital of Richmond. Heart to Soul in Action will be tabling outside Commons Plaza along Linden walkway (across from Harris Hall) to distribute card supplies. Volunteers can drop off completed cards in the Heart to Soul in Action drop box starting Nov. 17 until midnight Nov. 20. (The drop box will be in the Student Commons next to the vending machines left of the doors when entering from the side facing the library.)

Camp Kesem at VCU Counselor Interest Meeting

Poetry has long been used as a tool of self-expression. As this historic semester comes to an end, Multimedia Teaching and Learning Librarian Oscar Keyes and poet/event specialist Gregory Kimbrell will lead a collaborative poetry activity using Google Docs.
