Wilder School to Celebrate 66th Governor and Distinguished Faculty Professor L. Douglas Wilder

The Wilder School will host an event honoring distinguished faculty professor L. Douglas Wilder, Virginia's 66th governor. "Ahead of His Class: Celebrating 90 Years of Pathbreaking Leadership in Education" will commemorate Wilder's 90th birthday. Norman E. Sharpless, M.D., director of the National Cancer Institute, will discuss COVID-19 and cancer at a Zoom webinar. The event will be co-sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; the Office of Health Equity at the Virginia Department of Health; VCU Massey Cancer Center and faith leaders from the Facts and Faith Fridays group. MLK Week Keynote: 'Social Justice and Contemplative Practice'

The Martin Luther King Week virtual keynote event, “Social Justice and Contemplative Practice: Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Oliver Hill, Jr.,” will feature a panel discussion focusing on how Hill’s legacy answers King’s call to end injustice. 'Fernanda Laguna: As Everybody' Exhibit Extended at ICA
Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The ICA has extended "Fernanda Laguna: As Everybody" through Feb. 28. "As Everybody" is a survey of work by Argentinian multimedia artist Fernanda Laguna, who investigates her surrealist aesthetic and feminist activism. "As Everybody," Laguna’s first solo exhibition in the United States, weaves together various facets of her practice as a visual artist, curator of alternative art spaces, novelist, poet and activist. The Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Recreational Sports Swim Lessons for Children
Recreational Sports will offer swim lessons for children. Parent/child and preschool levels 1-3 will be held on Saturday mornings at the aquatic center, Cary Street Gym, 101 S. Linden St. Registration closes at noon on Feb. 5. The first session of lessons will be held Feb. 6-March 6.

Enroll in a spring dining plan by Jan. 15 to qualify for free Starbucks beverages. For students who do not have a required plan, sign up for a 25-swipe plan and get 10 Grande beverages, a 50- or 100-swipe plan and receive 15 Grande beverages, or a 150-swipe plan or more and earn 20 Grande beverages.

Are you a woman ages 18 to 25? Would you like to participate in a research study aimed to accept your body? Involvement includes participation in a one-week online intervention that lasts 45 minutes total. Participants are asked to complete one-hour online surveys at three time points.
