Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of the most inspirational figures in the history of mathematics, was a gifted amateur mathematician from south India who left behind three notebooks that engineers, mathematicians and physicists continue to mine today. Ken Ono, D.O., Thomas Jefferson Professor of Mathematics, University of Virginia, will discuss why Ramanujan matters today and share clips from the film, “The Man Who Knew Infinity,” which starred Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons. Ono served as an associate producer and mathematical consultant for the film. The talk is part of VCU's Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Colloquium Series.

Researchers in VCU's Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences are seeking female participants for a study investigating immune responses to high saturated fat meals. Ideal participants are female, nonsmoking, 18-30 years old and in good health. Individuals who do not currently engage in structured exercise are especially encouraged to participate.
