Diversity and Inclusion Facilitator Training

Would you like to feel more comfortable leading dialogue about difference? Apply now to learn about inclusive dialogue and to practice and increase your skills in leading inclusive dialogue about diverse social identities. IExcel is accepting applications now for its new Diversity and Inclusion Facilitator Training, led by Tamisha Williams. Participants will reflect on identity, practice deep listening and discuss ways to address tension and conflict, among other core facilitation skills. Selected facilitators who opt for the RAMmalogues Facilitator Track will earn $500 and commit to co-facilitating RAMmalogues sessions (at least once per semester through 2022). Wavelength: Alice Sheppard

Wavelength, an online lecture series presented by the ICA at VCU, VCUarts and VCUarts Qatar, will return with a virtual talk from Alice Sheppard, a dancer, choreographer and founder and artistic lead for the disability arts organization Kinetic Light. Each virtual program, occurring monthly throughout the fall semester, seeks to connect a dynamic group of artists, designers, curators and scholars with VCU communities in Richmond, Doha and beyond. Lecture by Visiting Artist Humaira Abid

VCU's Department of Craft and Material Studies will present a lecture by artist Humaira Abid at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. Abid’s turned and carved wood sculpture and paintings, known for their detail, depict human relationships, societal repression and the consequences of keeping basic truths from being discussed and shared. She is the recipient of the 2020 Bob Stocksdale International Excellence in Wood Award and 2021 Kayla Skinner Award from Seattle Art Museum.

The Minority Political Leadership Institute is a collaborative initiative of the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus. MPLI is an eight-month experience designed to promote leadership development for individuals interested in issues important to minority communities including community economics, political climate, civic engagement and equity.
