Screening for Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives

When cancer is detected early, it can be easier to treat or cure, and screening tests can help find tumors at an early stage before symptoms occur. Join Mary Helen Hackney, M.D., medical oncologist at VCU Massey Cancer Center, as she discusses the screening guidelines and options for a variety of cancers, including breast, cervical, colorectal, head and neck, lung, prostate and skin cancer. Counter-Cartographies of Smell at ICA With Artist agustine zegers

This summer, the ICA Shop will present a series of intimate live programming events each Friday evening. Artist agustine zegers will guide a small group in an olfactory walkthrough the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., with key stopping points. At each point, participants will take notes and explore different facets of the scent produced in response to the smellscapes of the ICA.

Volunteers With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Are Invited for Study Evaluating Effects of Noninvasive Brain Stimulation on Pain Perception in Patients With Diabetic Neuropathy
We are inviting male and female patients with diabetic neuropathy ages 18-75 to participate in a research investigation into the effects of noninvasive brain stimulation on pain perception. This study involves transcranial magnetic stimulation, which is a noninvasive and widely used brain stimulation technique. It also involves completing surveys and undergoing tests to evaluate perceptions of pain. Volunteers will be compensated for their time. You are only required to come once for the study and it will take approximately two to two-and-a-half hours to complete the study. The study is conducted within the VCU Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Engineering Lab at 737 N. Fifth St. Recruitment is ongoing. The All of Us Research Program at the National Institutes of Health is inviting more than a million people across the United States to help build one of the most diverse health databases of its kind. VCU has partnered with All of Us to help the VCU community contribute to that database. People who join will give information about their health, habits and where they live.
