Funding Opportunities for STEM-Field Research

A Conversation With Amy Brainer: 'Queer Kinship and Family Change in Taiwan'

VCU Sociology of Sexualities class will present a dialogue with Amy Brainer on her award-winning book "Queer Kinship and Family Change in Taiwan." Brainer is an associate professor and Director of Women’s and Gender Studies and coordinator of LGBTQ+ studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Facilitated by VCU sociologist Ying-Chao Kao, Brainer will discuss gender, sexuality, and queer families in Taiwan and their trans-national implications to American thinkers. The VCU Police Department will host a bike registration and U-Lock table at the Compass, 828 Park Ave. VCU students, faculty and staff can receive a free U-Lock with a valid VCU ID and learn how to register their bicycle. Virtual Screening: Nadine Nour el Din's 'roads through the city'

Recruiting Now for TEENS, a Virtual Weight Management Research Program for 12-16 Year-Olds
Are you concerned about your teen’s weight? We can help. TEENS is a research program that includes a four-month family-based lifestyle intervention – all conducted virtually – for teens ages 12 to 16 who are overweight or obese. The program is offered by Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. It includes weekly, virtual group classes for teens and parents that cover topics such as healthy eating, physical activity and goal-setting. Teens also participate in live exercise sessions conducted online by personal trainers.

VCU Health and Massey Cancer Center are conducting focus groups to understand the experiences of Black men who smoke or used to smoke and their opinions about lung cancer screening, smoking cessation and health care disparities in Virginia. Patients With Painful Diabetic Neuropathy Are Invited To Participate in a Study of a Potential New Treatment
We are inviting male and female Type 2 diabetes patients with painful diabetic neuropathy ages 18-75 to participate in a research investigation of a new treatment to alleviate pain and examine its effects on pain perception. In addition to the new treatment, this study involves completing surveys and undergoing tests to evaluate perceptions of pain. Volunteers will be compensated for their time. Participants are only required to come once for the study. The study is conducted within the VCU Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Engineering Lab.
