Lecture by Visiting Artist Anna Mlasowsky

VCU's Department of Craft/Material Studies will present a lecture by glass artist Anna Mlasowsky, whose work has been included in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, the Toyama City Museum and the Castello Sforzesco in Milan. She is the recipient of the 2018 Aldo Bellini Award, the John and Joyce Price Award of Excellence and was a Museum of Art and Design Burk Prize finalist. Richard Taylor Jr.: '31 Days of Power: A Simplified Approach To Every Day Mental Health'

TRIO, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, University Counseling Services and VCU Department of Recreation and Well-Being (RecWell) will host mental health advocate Richard Taylor Jr. in Salons I and II, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Taylor’s story of overcoming morbid obesity, depression, multiple suicide attempts and domestic abuse resonates with all students. The first 50 students who attend will receive a copy of his latest book, “31 Days of Power.” VCU students will also have the chance to win Gold Premiere tickets to RAMFEST and a $50 Amazon gift card.

VCU Police, in partnership with sexual assault resource providers, will host Start by Believing @ The Commons at the Commons Plaza, 907 Floyd Ave. Members of the VCU women’s basketball team will host a “dribble knockout” and a “dribble relay” to raise awareness about disbelieving survivors. The event will feature resource tables, raffles, free food and other activities hosted by offices and organizations internal and external to VCU.

Street Closures for the Monument Avenue 10K
VCU Facilities Management advises that street closures for the Monument Avenue 10K will have significant impact on the Monroe Park Campus on Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23. Roads in the center of campus will close on Friday at 5 a.m. and roads along the Franklin Street corridor will close at 1 p.m. The campus can be accessed via Cary and Main Streets. If traveling to or around the Monroe Park Campus on Friday or Saturday, please plan your route carefully and allow extra time.

Recruiting Now for TEENS, a Virtual Weight-Management Research Program for 12-16-Year-Olds
Are you concerned about your teen’s weight? We can help. TEENS is a research program that includes a four-month family-based lifestyle intervention - all conducted virtually - for teens ages 12 to 16 who are overweight or obese. The program is offered by Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. It includes weekly, virtual group classes for teens and parents that cover topics such as healthy eating, physical activity and goal-setting. Teens also participate in live exercise sessions conducted online by personal trainers.
