Visiting Artist Lecture by Afroditi Psarra

The VCUarts Department of Kinetic Imaging will present a virtual artist lecture by Afroditi Psarra on “Cybercraft, World-Building and Wearables.” Psarra is a transdisciplinary artist and assistant professor of digital arts and experimental media at the University of Washington. VCU Jazz Orchestra I in Concert

The VCU Jazz Orchestra I will perform in a free concert in Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, W.E. The JXN Project – Abraham Peyton Skipwith Homecoming
Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The JXN Project will virtually present the story of Abraham Peyton Skipwith, Jackson Ward’s first known Black homeowner. Skipwith built his home, also known as the Skipwith-Roper Cottage, in 1793 and it remained in the custody of Black homeowners until the cottage was forcibly condemned due to the construction of the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike. JXN is leading the “Skipwith-Roper Homecoming” campaign effort to reconstruct the cottage as a historic site to tell a fuller history of the Black American experience through the untold story of the life and legacy of the founding father of the country’s first historically registered Black urban neighborhood. Lecture by Visiting Artist Awol Erizku

The artist seeks to create a new vernacular that bridges the gap between African and African American visual culture, referencing art history, hip hop and spirituality in his work.

Avaya Workplace Update and Changes
On Feb. 10 beginning at 5 p.m., VCU Telecommunications will complete a maintenance update to the Avaya Workplace app. The updates are: 1.) Dialing 9 before a local or long-distance call will no longer be needed. 2.) For cellphone, Workplace users only, a call to 911 will go out over your wireless carrier (AT&T, for instance, or Verizon T-Mobile). Users are strongly advised not to use the Avaya Workplace application to place a 911 call.

New Adobe Products and Features
All Adobe Creative Cloud users at VCU now have access to Adobe's Substance 3D collection of apps and services. To learn more, visit: https://substance3d.adobe.com. Adobe Spark is now Creative Cloud Express. In addition to the same features Spark previously offered, Creative Cloud Express includes two additional applications for editing: Premiere Rush for videos (desktop and mobile apps) and Photoshop Express for photos (mobile app; not to be confused with Photoshop Elements which is a separate product not included in the VCU Adobe Enterprise agreement). All non-employee students at VCU have free access to Creative Cloud Express. VCU users with an Adobe Creative Cloud or Acrobat DC-only license may now use Adobe Fonts without requesting Adobe Cloud Access separately.
