Mindful Finals: Find Your Fit

Meet RecWell's Peer Health Educators in the lobby of James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave., and discuss how to prioritize physical well-being. The educators will help students review their physical activity and nutrition habits and create plans to incorporate physical self-care during finals.

'Opening Event – Doing Language: Word Work'

Join the ICA Shop in celebrating the launch of a multi-part curatorial project in which five artists – Bryan Castro, Riley Hooker, Joselia Rebekah Hughes, Malcolm Peacock and agustine zegers – have been commissioned to generate new work in the form of editions and media. Inspired by Toni Morrison’s Nobel Prize lecture, the project, at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., frames language as a tool to help give shape and weight life's gestural, imperceivable and fleeting experiences. RSVP at the following URL.

Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Vocal Ensemble; the RVA Street Singers, directed by Robin Rio and accompanied by Mark Koontz; the Voices of Zion Choir from Hood Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, accompanied by Will Griffin; and the Greater Richmond Children’s Choir, directed and accompanied by Crystal Jonkman and Pete Curry, will participate in a community carol sing at Monroe Park. Food trucks will arrive at the site 3 p.m.

StudyWell Break: Meditation at Health Sciences Library
Monday, Dec. 13, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m.
Georgianne Ginder will lead participants through a meditative relief session aimed at reducing stress and anxiety. This event, which will be held in the first-floor conference room of the Health Sciences Library, 509 N. 12th St., is part of VCU Libraries StudyWell campaign. No registration is necessary.

Increased Security and Police Patrols During Finals
As students study on campus at night for final exams, VCU Police will increase the number of patrols on the Monroe Park Campus. In addition, RMC Security will also increase the number of mobile patrols around James Branch Cabell Library. Enhanced patrols will start at 9 p.m. on Dec. 10 and continue through 3 a.m. each night. Should community members witness suspicious behavior at any time, they are encouraged to call VCU Police at the following telephone number or use the LiveSafe app.

RecWell Hiring Student Program Support Specialists
VCU Recreation and Well-Being (RecWell) is hiring program support specialists for Spring 2022. Program support specialists assist with health promotion projects, including health communications, graphic design, social media, videography, photography and print. Specialists also serve as a friendly face at RecWell's front desk at 101 S. Linden St., and assist with posting the monthly Stall Seat Journal. Applications on Handshake close Dec. 22, but will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants must be eligible for Federal Work Study.

Toys for Tots Campaign
Women in Science will host the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program through Dec. 13. Collection boxes will be available for new, unwrapped toys for needy children in the Richmond area at Sanger Hall, 1101 E. Marshall St.; Molecular Medicine Research Building, 1220 E. Broad St.; Jonah L. Larrick Student Center, 900 Turpin St.; and Hunton Student Center, 1110 E. Broad St. (Toys for Tots prefers not to accept realistic looking weapons or gifts with food. If donated, such items will not be distributed.)

Call for Submissions for RAMily Workshop Series
VCU's Dean of Students Office invites all faculty and staff to serve as instructors for the university's RAMily Workshop Series, an opportunity for VCU families to virtually connect and learn something new.
