'Common Ground' Screening – RVA Environmental Film Festival
5:30 p.m.
VCUarts Cinema will host a screening of "Common Ground" as part of the Richmond Environmental Film Festival. The film profiles a hopeful, uplifting movement of white, black and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health and stabilize America’s economy. The free screening will be at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center (ICA), 601 W. Broad St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the screening will begin at t 6 p.m.

Food Is My Love Language

Food connects us to culture, heritage and community. Join VCU's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) for Food Is My Love Language, an evening of storytelling, cultural sharing and delicious food, featuring chef and restaurateur Velma Johnson (a.k.a. Mama J) of Richmond’s Mama J’s Café. Through storytelling and conversation, participants will explore how food carries memory and meaning through cultures and across generations. Students will have the opportunity to savor flavors, with a tasting experience featuring sample-sized portions of authentic dishes. She is associate professor of Kinetic Imaging at VCUarts Qatar.This talk presents a practice-based exploration of artistic work with artificial intelligence. It surveys AI-related projects developed since 2019, examining image, text, robotic and material processes, and critically reflects on authorship, agency and the cultural and ecological implications of generative AI. Abstract Submissions Open: People-Based Medicine Conference

Submissions are open for student poster presentations at the People-Based Medicine conference. The conference is a joint undertaking focusing on health inequity as a critical disease in the U.S. – and preventive care as its cure. Students are invited to submit abstracts for research in a range of subjects, as long as they serve a purpose for advancing health care. The conference will be held at the James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center (MMEC), 1201 E. Marshall St. Registration is free, but students are responsible for printing and transporting their own posters. An Exercise App for Young Black Women: Tell Me, What Would You Want?
Black women ages 18-35 who have no experience with resistance exercise (e.g., lifting weights, resistance bands, body weight exercises) are invited to share their perspectives about resistance exercise and their desired features of a mobile app aimed to help guide and track their exercise regimens. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This research study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. Support Your Goals and Help Science Support Other Women, Too
Redefining BMI is a research study at the VCU School of Public Health. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of two programs to help manage their weight by making changes to eating and physical activity. Both programs involve attending virtual group-based sessions led by a trained lifestyle coach over the course of 12 months. This study also asks participants to attend in-person data collection visits before beginning the program, and then again at four, eight and 12 months.

Risk-Taking in Eating Disorders Study
The Translational Research on Eating and Affect (TREAT) Lab is recruiting adolescent girls and young adult women (aged 12 to 25 years) for a brain imaging study to understand risky decision-making in individuals who have concerns about their body shape/weight, or overeat, purge, use laxatives, diet severely or exercise excessively. We are also investigating these processes in individuals without a psychological disorder. There will be compensation for participation.
