Kuwaiti-born, Giza-based artist Ibrahim Ahmed will explore mythic narratives via photo collage, sculpture, video and large-scale installation in his first U.S. institutional exhibition. Ahmed draws inspiration in the working-class neighborhood of Ard El Lewa in Giza. The exhibit will be view at VCU's Institute for Contemporary Art, 601 W. Broad St., July 23- Nov. 7. Request for Applications: American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant

Grant applications are invited from junior faculty for the award of small research grants of up to $30,000 for one year. American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grants are awarded to junior faculty to pursue basic, pre-clinical, clinical and cancer-control research studies. These grants are intended for new investigators who are within six years of their first academic appointment. Each applicant is strongly encouraged to include a biostatistician collaborator as part of the proposal to assist with design and statistical methods. If assistance is needed in identifying a biostatistician, contact Dipankar Bandyopadhyay, Ph.D., (bandyop@vcuhealth.org), director of the MCC Biostatistics Shared Resource, as soon as possible. Cultural Competency and Language Classes

VCU's Office of Continuing and Professional Education, in partnership with the School of World Studies, will hold live online Cultural Competency and Language Classes for VCU and VCU Health employees and community members for one academic credit. Courses begin the week of Aug. 23 and run through early December. Introduction to Conversational German I, Italian I and Spanish I and II will be available, in addition to Intermediate Spanish I. Participate in a Survey Study on Behavior Change Counseling

Are you a health-care clinician who practices in Virginia? If so, then you are likely eligible to participate in a survey study conducted by faculty at VCU. We are interested in how health-care professionals have learned behavioral health counseling, specifically motivational interviewing. Individuals who vape/use electronic cigarettes daily are needed to participate in a research study that requires multiple laboratory visits. Compensation will be provided.
