VCU's Sociology Department and Alpha Kapp Delta will host a keynote speech by Esra Sarioglu, University of Virginia. Her book (Oxford University Press, 2022) was awarded the American Sociological Association's Body and Embodiment Section Best Book Award. The talk will be in the SGA Senate Chambers, Room 157, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. A Q&A session will encompass the global wave of misogyny, homophobia and transphobia coupled with xenophobia. Today's leadership conference, hosted by the WISDM faculty organization, includes keynote speaker Devon Proudfoot, Ph.D., Cornell University, who will discuss breaking free from gendered expectations at work; Xenia T. Tigno, Ph.D., speaking about National Institutes of Health's efforts to empower inclusive excellence for women in STEMM; and several of VCU's own faculty investigating barriers related to the workplace. STEM in Art is hosting its final event of the semester. While using coffee as a painting medium, students can learn the biological and chemical effects of coffee on the human body. Trauma in its various forms can significantly impact the experiences of young people and young adults. In this workshop, participants will consider the basics of trauma awareness and building resilience for students across various identities and ages. VCU Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute's Supervisors and Managers Boot Camp is open for registration until Friday, April 26. Recreation and Well-Being Water Safety Instructor Training

This course will prepare participants to plan and teach courses within the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Acute and Chronic Stress on Cardiovascular Health

Individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as Black or African American are invited to participate in a research study examining the effect of acute and chronic stress on cardiovascular and inflammation responses to an acute mental challenge. Raffle drawings for financial compensation will be conducted. This study will take place at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus.
