'Voices of Change' Presentation Reflects VCU's Legacy of Student Activism

Courageous Conversations Virtual Workshop: Jewish Students, Belonging and Understanding Antisemitism
Wednesday, Mar. 4, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Designed for graduate students, this workshop examines contemporary manifestations of antisemitism and the needs and experiences of Jewish people on college campuses and beyond. Participants will explore how antisemitism may emerge overtly or covertly, even in spaces that are seemingly dedicated to belonging and inclusion, and the challenges such dynamics pose for educators, learners and practitioners. Participants will also consider how their own ideas and understandings of Jews and Judaism may impact their perceptions of antisemitism and interactions with Jewish people. The session will include dedicated time for questions and group discussion. Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health Research Seminar

VCU’s Na Bo, Ph.D., an assistant professor of biostatistics, will speak on “Novel Statistical Framework for Personalized Treatment Strategies.” Her research expertise lies in the interface of precision medicine, causal inference and data science, especially in survival outcomes. Her methodological research focuses on developing statistical methods and algorithms to estimate heterogeneous treatment effects and identify beneficial subgroups for individualized health care decision making. Submitting a Grant as an Early or Mid-Stage Investigator? Questions About Scientific Direction or Study Design?
VCU's C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research offers the Research Design Studio, a 90-minute, no-cost consultation for investigators developing grant applications. The session provides early, multidisciplinary scientific input to help clarify scientific direction, strengthen study design and methodology, and address key considerations for high-quality clinical and translational research. It is moderated and provides structured feedback from an expert panel that includes two to three scientific experts and Wright Center experts in biostatistics, clinical research, informatics and community engagement, as appropriate. The Research Design Studio is available to VCU investigators planning to submit internal or external funding applications, typically with a submission deadline approximately six months away. Applicants should be prepared to submit a draft of their project’s specific aims and clearly defined questions related to study design. An Exercise App for Young Black Women: Tell Me, What Would You Want?
Black women ages 18-35 who have no experience with resistance exercise (e.g., lifting weights, resistance bands, body weight exercises) are invited to share their perspectives about resistance exercise and their desired features of a mobile app aimed to help guide and track their exercise regimens. Support Your Goals and Help Science Support Other Women, Too
Redefining BMI is a research study at the VCU School of Public Health. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of two programs to help manage their weight by making changes to eating and physical activity. Both programs involve attending virtual group-based sessions led by a trained lifestyle coach over the course of 12 months. This study also asks participants to attend in-person data collection visits before beginning the program, and then again at four, eight and 12 months.

Participants Needed for Brain Imaging Study
The Research on Excessive, Persistent and Emotion-Based Actions and Traits (REPEAT) Lab at VCU is conducting a brain imaging study to understand how decision making differs between adults with anorexia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive disorder and no history of a psychological disorder. Postmenopausal Females Are Invited For Study the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This study is seeking postmenopausal females to participate in a research study examining the effect of exercise training on blood vessel function.
